Jessica Rogers Signs With University of Mobile!!!
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball program announced the signing of Baker High School product Jessica Rogers.
Rogers, a shortstop, earned several accolades at Baker and is excited about staying close to home and playing college ball.
"Coach Terri McCormick is a great coach, I liked the opportunity to play college softball close to home, and it's a great school and competitive team," Rogers said. "It's a great fit for me."
Rogers and her teammates won the 6A State Championship in 2007 and she was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2008. In 2009, she was named to the Alabama All-Star South Team, Golden Glove and was the team leader in RBIs. She was named Press-Register Super 12 Honorable Mention 2007-09.
That success and her hard work will help Rogers as she heads to the college level in 2011.
"I'm going to work hard and try my best to find my place on the team," Rogers said. "I'll compete and I don't like to lose."
She chose Mobile over Belhaven University and University of West Florida, among others.
Hannah Campbell signs with USA!!!

Campbell was named the 2009 Mobile Press-Register Player of the Year as a junior, after leading SHS to a runner-up finish in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state tournament. She was named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A all-state team and the 6A state all-tournament team, and finished the season with a 28-4 record and 0.56 ERA in the circle. Campbell struck out 338 batters in 200 innings, while allowing just 20 walks during her junior season.
"I am excited about the addition of Hannah to our pitching staff, and believe she has a very bright future at South Alabama," Clark said. "She has a tremendous work ethic and drive to be the best. I feel like she is a player who will only get better as she continues to work, which is exciting considering she is already such an accomplished pitcher."

Dunaway signs with Jaguars!!!
Fairhope outfielder to be the third county player on USA roster

FAIRHOPE — Stephanie Dunaway didn't need another season to think about where she wanted to go to college.
The Fairhope senior softball player signed a scholarship with South Alabama prior to her final season Monday at a ceremony in the FHS library.
"I worked a long time for it, and my family and myself and my coaches have all made sacrifices to get me to wear I am today," Duna way said.
Dunaway, an outfielder, was named to the Press-Register Super 12 team and the 6A all-state team after hitting .518 with three home runs, 12 triples and 32 stolen bases last season.
"She's a leader on the field, obviously through her talent and playing ability, but also (through) her attitude and work ethic," said Fairhope coach Jonathan Heflin. "She's been a phenomenal part of our program."
Dunaway will join a South Alabama program that started play in 2007 under coach Becky Clark. Dunaway mentioned location and Clark among reasons she chose USA.
"Being close to home so my family and friends can come see me play," she said. "I love their coaches and players.'
Donaldson also played with and against several current and future South Alabama players, including Lady Jag freshman Haley Hopkins of GulfShores and recent USA signee Morgan Druhan of Spanish Fort.
Heflin said one of the reasons for Dunaway's success is her competitive nature.
"She's never satisfied with being OK or being good," he said. "She wants to be great in all aspects of her game. You've really seen that streak come out in her; I think the better the players, the more they want to play against the best competition, and that's when she really excels."
Dunaway, who has not decided on a major, was joined at the signing by parents Hunter and Lisa, other family members, friends, teammates and members of the Fairhope administration.
Heflin said the signing is an important moment for his program.
"It's big for us. Not too long ago, we weren't a spot on the map," he said. "We came in and took over and said this is where we want to be and this is what we're working toward, they bought into it. Two years ago we won nine games, last year we won 21 and Stephanie has been a huge part of that. Her signing at a Division 1 school, I think that says we're building a quality program and doing it the right way."...
Scholarship signing bittersweet for Cooper!!!
MGM senior will sign softball scholarship today, but her biggest influence won't be there

SEMMES — Kelsey Cooper will gather for a commemorative photo today, posing with her mother, sister and Mary Montgomery softball coach Brenda Box, as she achieves a long-held goal by signing a college softball scholarship.
The moment will be bittersweet, though, because the most important influence in Cooper's athletic career — her dad — won't be there to celebrate the occasion.
Brad Cooper, 43, died unexpectedly after suffering a seizure and a heart attack last May.
"My dad was like my best friend," said Kelsey, a Mary Montgomery senior who will sign today with Northwest Florida State College. "When they told me that he died, the first thing I thought of was that he's not going to get to watch me play in college, and he's not going to be able to walk me down the aisle.'"
How will she handle today's signing ceremony?
"My dream was always for my dad to see me play in college," said Kelsey, a standout catcher and shortstop who was named to the Press-Register's Super 12 softball team. "We both always wanted it. I know it's going to be hard, but I try not to think about it."
Coping with her father's death was difficult for Kelsey last spring, but it was especially agonizing because she was poised for a crucial summer season with the Mobile Thrillers that would give her a chance to impress college recruiters. Her father's passing meant that he wouldn't be there to guide her through the final stages of the recruiting process.
"I've always told myself that my dad is a great guy, he made me who I am and I play softball for him. He's the reason I play now," Kelsey said.
Brad Cooper essentially taught the game to his daughter, serving as a youth-league assistant coach before becoming the head coach of a summer-league team affiliated with the Mobile Thrillers. Kelsey remembers her father as "one of the best coaches around," a man who often offered hitting advice to anyone who asked for help.
He never missed any of Kelsey's games, whether it was basketball, volleyball or softball, and they even went deer hunting together. But both developed a keen interest in softball....

Kayla Rester
The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics today announced the signing of Kayla Rester of St. Paul's Episcopalian School in Mobile to a softball athletic grant-in-aid. As a 4-year starter for St. Paul's, Rester is a 3-time All-County selection and played for the South in the Alabama All-Star game. She was a second team member of the "Super 12" as a senior and played for the Mobile Thrillers College Exposure team.
Rester stated, "I couldn't have achieved any of this without the help of my coaches, the support of my parents and my faith in God." "Kayla is exactly the kind of student-athlete Spring Hill tries to recruit," said SHC Head Coach Alison Cook. "She's committed to being successful both on the field and in the classroom."
Rester plans on studying Nursing at Spring Hill and is looking forward to the challenge of collegiate athletics.
Courtney Layne Lollar - EOCC Softball Signee!!!

06/25/09 - Enterprise-Ozark Community College softball coach King Jones had a gigantic hole to fill following the end of the 2009 season.
“We had to replace our entire starting team,” Jones said Thursday, moments before seven recent high school graduates, mostly from Southwest Alabama, signed scholarships as their parents, siblings, and friends looked on in the EOCC Multi-Purpose Room.
Moments earlier, Jones had welcomed those in attendance and opened his comments on a serious note.
“If you want to play (softball) in the spring, you have to pass your classes in the fall,” the veteran coach advised. “We have an excellent school here, and we’re recognized as one of the top schools in Alabama. You are here first and foremost to get an education.”
Recent Weevil Women have realized that.
“All of our sophomore graduates but one will be going on to a four-year school,” Jones said. “One was ready to go to work; she was tired of school. We lost all but five players this spring, and I expect these girls we sign today and the ones we signed earlier in the spring to come in here and get their grades and help keep this softball program headed in the right direction.”
